Position Overview
The Director of Calian Operational and Training Technologies Solutions (COTTS) is a senior leadership role responsible for setting the strategic vision, driving innovation, and overseeing the operational execution of technology initiatives within Calian’s Defence Division. This role leads the Technology and Innovation Team, ensuring the successful development, integration, and delivery of advanced operational and training technology solutions that support defence customers and organizational growth.
Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Leadership
Contribute to the overall strategy of the Defence Division and participate in sub-division planning sessions.
Develop and execute a technology and innovation roadmap aligned with business objectives.
Provide visionary leadership to the Operational and Training Technologies team, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
Identify emerging technologies and trends in defence training and operations to drive competitive advantage and growth.
Build and maintain strong client and business relationships to support strategic influence and business development.
Lead financial forecasting and budget management for a multi-million-dollar portfolio.
Travel as required to support business development, sales, and customer engagement activities.
Innovation Management
Lead the ideation, development, and implementation of innovative technology solutions for defence training and operations.
Collaborate with other subdivisions within the Learning Defence Division to support opportunity capture and contract incumbency.
Maintain awareness of evolving defence and training technology trends to anticipate future requirements.
Foster continuous improvement and creativity across the team.
Manage and prioritize the innovation pipeline, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
Technology Development & Implementation
Oversee the design, development, deployment, and integration of technology solutions.
Ensure technology projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to defined quality standards.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful solution adoption and integration.
Operations & People Management
Oversee day-to-day operations of the Operational and Training Technologies team.
Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to optimize technology processes.
Participate in and oversee technology demonstrations as required.
Monitor operational performance metrics and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
Mentor and develop team members to strengthen leadership and technical capabilities.
Work closely with Calian corporate support services to address human resources and legal matters as required.
Stakeholder Management
Act as a liaison between the technology team and internal departments to ensure alignment and collaboration.
Present technology strategies, operational plans, and performance updates to senior leadership.
Build and maintain relationships with external partners, vendors, and industry experts.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field
OR 10+ years of combined experience directing government technology programs and/or delivering technology solutions to the Department of National Defence.
Minimum 10+ years of experience in technology leadership roles, with a demonstrated record of innovation and operational excellence.
Strong understanding of current and emerging technologies relevant to defence training and operational environments.
Proven experience leading and managing technology and operations teams.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Strong project and program management capabilities, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to technology, innovation, and operations.
Experience with budget management and financial planning.
Additional Requirements
Must reside within easy commuting distance of the National Capital Region.
Ability to travel as required for business development and customer engagements.
Experience working with government or defence clients is considered an asset.
Compensation
Salary Range: $150,000-$195,000
