Position Overview

We are looking for an HR Advisor, Employee Relations to support a positive and consistent employee experience across Calian. Reporting to the Manager, Employee Relations, this role provides employee relations expertise and guidance to managers and employees, supports complex workplace matters, conducts investigations, and ensures compliance with employment legislation and company policies.

The HR Advisor plays a key role in advising on performance concerns, terminations, workplace accommodations, attendance management, leaves of absence, workplace complaints, disability management, and other employee relations matters.

This position contributes to a high-performance, employee-focused culture through sound judgment, problem solving, collaboration, and data-driven recommendations. Some roles within the Employee Relations team may be dedicated to supporting specific Calian acquisitions and business units.

Responsibilities

  • Manage employee relations matters of medium to high complexity, including investigations, terminations, workplace complaints, accommodations, attendance management, leaves, and performance concerns
  • Partner with HR Business Partners to recommend appropriate resolutions and monitor outcomes
  • Collaborate with internal legal counsel to ensure compliance with employment legislation and company policies
  • Advise managers and employees on HR policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Support the development and implementation of performance improvement plans
  • Manage offboarding activities, including exit interviews and related documentation
  • Contribute to the development, review, and implementation of HR policies and procedures
  • Act as a subject matter expert on HR policies, procedures, and forms
  • Monitor employment legislation and recommend updates to maintain compliance across all locations
  • Provide proactive HR guidance and communicate employment standards and regulatory requirements
  • Analyze HR metrics and trends to identify opportunities for process improvements, risk mitigation, and enhanced employee experience
  • Assist employees with inquiries related to benefits programs
  • Case manage complex WSIB/WCB claims and leaves of absence from initiation through resolution
  • Maintain HRIS data with a high level of accuracy and timeliness
  • Prepare HR correspondence, reports, metrics, training materials, and confidential documentation
  • Lead or support projects that improve employee experience and optimize HR processes
  • Collaborate with HR colleagues and stakeholders to ensure effective communication and resolution of employee matters

Qualifications

  • College diploma in a human resources-related field, such as Business Administration with a specialization in Human Resources Management
  • Minimum three years of experience across a broad range of HR functions with a strong focus on employee relations and conflict resolution
  • Knowledge of Canadian labour laws and provincial employment standards
  • Experience managing employee relations cases from intake through resolution
  • Experience advising managers on performance concerns, investigations, terminations, accommodations, attendance management, and leaves
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience working with HRIS systems, with SAP and SuccessFactors preferred
  • Strong critical thinking, independent problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Exceptional judgment, discretion, and professionalism when handling sensitive and confidential matters
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to coach, influence, and challenge appropriately while maintaining positive working relationships
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical and data interpretation skills
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, service excellence, and operational efficiency
  • Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset

  • Ability to work remotely and collaborate effectively with managers, employees, HR Business Partners, legal counsel, and other stakeholders across the organization
  • Comfort working in a dynamic environment with ambiguity, competing priorities, and evolving business needs
  • Ability to build credibility, develop strong relationships, and navigate complex employee matters with confidence and professionalism
  • Strong organizational agility and willingness to learn business operations, stakeholder expectations, systems, and escalation processes
  • Experience with disability management, return-to-work programs, WSIB/WCB claims, and leave administration is preferred

Compensation

$70,000 to $75,000 annually
