Position Overview

The Finacial Reporting Accountant is responsible for assisting with Corporate-wide financial reporting, Corporate-wide External Audit and with Corporate-wide Taxation functions. 

The Financial Reporting Accountant will also assist with the day-to-day activities of the Accounting Department and be responsible for various financial analyses and reports for internal and external users. The Financial Reporting Accountant will be back-up to the Manager of Financial Reporting.

Although, we prefer candidates to be in Ottawa, remote Ontario based candidates will also be considered!
 

Responsibilities

Financial Reporting

  1. Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements of Calian Group Ltd, including the preparation and review of consolidation working papers supporting the financial statement disclosures.
  2. Manage the Company’s equity plan administration including monthly reconciliations for all share activity. 
  3. Planning and preparation of monthly, quarterly and audit deliverable schedules.
  4. Preparation of quarterly financial information.
  5. Coordinate and manage the quarterly reviews and year end audit with both the external auditors and the internal finance team.
  6. Assess newly issued IFRS standards as issued and impacts on Calian.
  7. Assist in the consolidation of newly acquired subsidiaries.
     

Internal Servicing

  1. Preparation of internal financial analyses, and reconciliations
  2. Calculate stock option benefits for Payroll to report on T4s.
  3. Responsible for the oversight of international subsidiary reporting including review of any potential local GAAP to IFRS adjustments
  4. Assisting the Corporate accounting team with research into tax changes or issues as they arise
  5. Assisting with other public company related duties
     

External Servicing

  1. Maintaining tax installment calculations and T2 reporting

As a member of the Corporate Division, you are responsible to ensure:

  1. You understand and follow Corporate Policies and Procedures, which relate to the system of internal controls. Specifically: Corporate Policies CO-009 Internal Controls, CO-013 Treatment of Concerns, and CO-002 Public Disclosure
  2. You understand and follow all of the Financial Policies and Procedures for Calian;
  3. You understand and follow Calian’s Guide to Ethical Business Practices;
  4. You communicate as required the above Policies and Procedures to your staff and;
  5. You disclose to the Manager of Financial Reporting and CFO ALL NEW SIGNIFICANT DEVELOPMENT in project status, projects in the pipelines IMMEDIATELY as they occur.
     

Qualifications

  • University Degree in Accounting
  • Industry experience at a public company
  • Working knowledge of IFRS
  • SAP knowledge desirable
  • Accounting designation desirable (CPA - CA, CGA, CMA)
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Self-starter
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills, both orally and written
  • Tax knowledge is a plus
