Position Overview 

The Senior Manager, Accounting is responsible for the financial function for Calian GNSS, a product manufacturer in Calian Groups Advanced Technology segment. Oversee operational and reporting finance function for the GNSS entity which would include all things financial operations for Calian GNSS including monthly and ad hoc reporting.  This role will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting functions, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, leading the month-end and year-end close processes, and supporting strategic financial planning. 

This role requires a high level of financial acumen and the ability to apply deep knowledge of accounting principles and business strategy to resolve complex financial scenarios. The decisions made in this role can influence key financial processes and contribute to the success of strategic initiatives, requiring a thoughtful, risk-aware, and business-aligned approach. 

 

Responsibilities 

 
Financial Reporting 

  • Oversight of the financial reporting function for Calian GNSS which would include the internal reporting to management on a monthly or more frequently and reporting monthly to the parent company Calian Group Ltd. a publicly traded company. 

  • Preparation of internal management reporting monthly for key metrics and overall financial performance 

  • Assisting in audit related matters as they arise including the co-ordination and management of the Year End Audit with both the external auditors, and internal finance team. 

  • Maintain and improve internal controls to ensure regulatory and policy compliance 

  • Actively contribute to the development of the broader strategic plan by offering financial perspectives that align with business goals. This includes identifying financial risks and opportunities and ensuring that financial planning supports the company’s growth trajectory. 

  

Internal Servicing 

  • Working alongside production teams to understand process to produce saleable goods and design standard cost of goods produced, including overhead 

  • Continually analyze and assess production costs for budgeting and capital expenditures 

  • Performance of monthly inventory cost variance analysis 

  • Maintenance of accounting systems and related controls 

  • Oversight of the banking function including transaction processing 

  • Oversee the day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger 

  • Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring timeliness and accuracy 

 

Strategic Financial Support 

  • Lead forecasting, budgets, and long-term strategic planning initiatives with support from GNSS leadership.  

  • Analyze financial performance and provide GNSS leadership with actionable insight and recommendations  

  • Support metric and data-based decision making   

 

Leadership and Team Development  

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high performing accounting team  

  • Foster a culture of accountability, process improvement, and alignment of best practice  

  • Make informed decisions that may impact financial operations, reporting accuracy, and business outcomes. 

  • Demonstrate sound judgment and a proactive mindset in addressing complex financial issues, such as cost structure optimization, capital allocation, and compliance with evolving regulatory standards. 

 

Qualifications 

  • University Degree in Commerce/Accounting 

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of working experience in accounting related function 

  • Minimum of 5 years in a management or leadership role  

  • Working knowledge of IFRS 

  • Accounting designation (CPA - CA, CGA, CMA) 

  • SAP knowledge an asset 

  • Ability to work well with others 

  • Self-starter 

  • Leadership qualities 

  • Strong analytical skills 

  • Strong communication skills, both orally and written
