Position Overview

The Senior RF Engineer is responsible for managing the proper functioning and maintenance of all RF systems within the satellite teleport, upholding technical standards, leading troubleshooting efforts, optimizing system performance, mentoring junior staff, and maintaining accurate documentation. This role is critical for ensuring high reliability and quality of RF signal transmissions and overall system performance. 

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and resolve signal degradation, EMI, RF Equipment 

  • Use tools like spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers (VNAs), and simulation software to pinpoint root causes 

  • Solve performance issues related to gain, bandwidth, and radiation patterns 

  • Adjust antenna parameters and placement to meet system and environmental constraints 

  • Choose components that meet electrical, thermal, and mechanical requirements 

  • Troubleshoot system-level integration issues 

  1. RF Systems Management: 

  • Ensure the proper functioning and maintenance of all RF systems within the satellite teleport.
  • Oversee the installation, configuration, and calibration of RF equipment.
  • Monitor system performance and implement necessary adjustments to maintain optimal operation. 

2. Technical Standards: 

  • Uphold technical standards and specifications for RF equipment and systems.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and best practices.
  • Evaluate and recommend new RF technologies and equipment to enhance system capabilities. 

  1. Troubleshooting: 

  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex RF issues.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the engineering team in resolving RF-related problems.
  • Develop and implement effective troubleshooting procedures to minimize downtime. 

  1. System Optimization: 

  • Optimize RF systems performance to maximize reliability and signal quality.
  • Conduct regular performance assessments and implement enhancements.
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate RF systems with overall teleport operations

5. Training and Development: 

  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians in RF technology and best practices.
  • Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for the technical team.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the engineering team. 

  1. Documentation: 

  • Maintain accurate documentation of RF systems configurations, changes, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Ensure all documentation is up-to-date and easily accessible to the team.
  • Prepare technical reports and summaries for management and stakeholders. 

Qualifications

  • 4 yr degree in Electrical Engineering or Satellite Systems Engineering and 4 years Experience.
  • In lieu of Degree, 8 years Experience with US Military Signal School Training with 2 years trade school or Associates Degree.
  • Must be able to Troubleshoot and repair Teleport and field systems.
