Position Overview

Advanced Medical Solutions (AMS) is seeking a skilled and experienced Operations Manager to lead our Community Paramedics Program. This role is ideal for a clinically trained professional (ACP Paramedic or RN) with strong leadership skills and experience managing remote healthcare teams.Reporting to the Leader of Community and Industrial Services, the Operations Manager will oversee daily operations, ensure staff well-being, and maintain service excellence for our clients, including the Government of Nunavut. This role requires resilience, high emotional intelligence, and the ability to support staff exposed to high-trauma situations in remote communities.

The preferred location for this position is Western Canada (Yellowknife area), but we are open to remote employees based across Canada.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Staff Development

  • Lead, mentor, and support frontline medical teams across remote locations.
  • Foster an employee-focused culture emphasizing quality, retention, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage work schedules, assignments, training, leave, payroll, and expenses.
  • Provide coaching, performance feedback, and growth opportunities while encouraging staff autonomy.

Operations & Project Management

  • Oversee daily operations of Community Paramedicine services, stepping in to support as needed.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to manage contracts and program logistics.
  • Allocate resources to meet AMS and client objectives efficiently.
  • Identify, anticipate, and mitigate operational risks affecting team performance.

Recruitment & Workforce Planning

  • Partner with the People Organization to support recruitment, selection, onboarding, and retention of frontline staff.
  • Develop and implement strategies to attract and maintain top talent, promoting diversity and inclusion.

Communication & Culture

  • Maintain professional, clear, and timely communication with staff, leadership, and clients.
  • Promote a collaborative, team-oriented environment encouraging idea-sharing and problem-solving.
  • Manage conflicts constructively and support staff experiencing secondary trauma.

Performance & Quality Assurance

  • Guide employees to achieve high standards of patient care and operational excellence.
  • Lead incident reviews, compile reports, and track performance metrics to ensure compliance and continuous improvement. 

Qualifications

Required:

  • ACP Paramedic or RN license.
  • Minimum 3 years of responsible management experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and coaching skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams in high-stakes, high-stress environments.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time management abilities.
  • Knowledge of employment practices, employee relations, and confidentiality standards.
  • Experience managing teams in collaborative, team-oriented workplaces.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
  • Class 4 driver’s license (or ability to acquire). 

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare management, EMS, or a related field.
  • Experience in remote medical services, industrial healthcare, air or ground medical transport, or community paramedicine.
  • Previous supervisory or managerial experience in complex operational environments.

Additional Requirements

  • Participation in after-hours and weekend on-call rotations.
  • Travel to remote worksites and client locations for up to 3 weeks at a time.
  • Ability to assume responsibilities of other Service Managers during absences.
  • Capacity to support staff exposed to high-trauma situations, including suicide crises and acute community emergencies.
