Position Overview
As a Satellite Control Technician you will use ground computers to control the SCISAT-1, RADARSAT-2, NEOSSAT and RCM satellites flying at an average altitude of 700 km and speed of 28,000 km/h. Members of this team play a critical role in the operation and maintenance of these satellites, as the Satellite Controller Technicians are responsible for operating the telemetry, tracking and command ground systems, monitoring telemetry and transmitting commands as well as supporting satellite anomaly identification and recovery.
Currently the team has 10 Satellite Control Technicians that share the joint responsibility of being onsite to monitor the various space operations. The successful candidate will need to be able to work shift work (day, night, weekend, and statutory holidays) on a four days ON / four days OFF schedule.
Responsibilities
- You will review operational documents including time-tag command tables and pass control procedures
- You will perform scheduled real-time satellite operations activities including:
- Pre-Pass Readiness Tests (equipment configuration, command and data flow tests, etc.)
- Pass (equipment operations, table uploads, telemetry verification, on-orbit telemetry and science data dumps, anomaly recoveries, etc.)
- Post-Pass file transfer, equipment deconfiguration and event logging
- On-orbit telemetry data playback
- You will verify for unexpected satellite state and limit violations
- You will use operational tools to generate satellite performance reports and orbit determination analysis
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or relevant field
- Available to work rotating shifts through weekends and evening
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- You will be able to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Secret level
