Position Overview

Calian is looking for a dynamic and passionate Communications and Signal Processing Algorithms Engineer to join our Systems Engineering team.  You have a strong theoretical background in communication theory and signal processing matched with a good understanding of the challenges and constraints of embedded system design.  You will work with systems that are at the forefront of new technology in satellite and terrestrial markets, implementing emerging and custom communication protocols using the latest embedded platforms, primarily using FPGA-based system-on-chip hardware. You will support all phases of projects.



  • Supporting project execution through definition of functional, interface and performance requirements, performing system design and analyses, performing verification testing, and supporting systems at sites located all over the world
  • Identifying, simulating, and evaluating mathematical models and algorithms
  • Supporting the translation of models and algorithms into software and/or logic
  • Supporting project teams as subject matter expert in communication theory, architecture and standards, learning about new areas as needed.
  • Leveraging your experience and knowledge in communication theory, architecture and standards to help create systems and algorithms that satisfy our customers’ needs



  • Master’s or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Engineering Physics; a postgraduate degree is not mandatory if sufficient experience is demonstrated
  • 2+ years of experience with satellite, cable, and/or cellular network technology, and a willingness to learn about other areas as needed
  • Ability to define models and algorithms to be readily translated into software 
  • Willing and able to travel internationally and adhere to international travel requirements as determined by the Government
  • You will have the ability to meet the requirements outlined in the Canadian Controlled Goods Program
  • You will be able to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level
