Calian Advanced Technologies is looking for an innovative and experienced Hardware Engineering Manager to join our organization. Currently our Engineering Department is separated into three main engineering areas: Hardware, Systems, and Software. Together these three engineering departments provide cutting edge technology with a strong emphasis on quality within the telecommunication industry.

 

The Manager, Hardware Engineering plays a critical role effectively managing the group of Hardware engineers and technologists. Currently the Hardware Engineering Department has approximately 50 employees that work on-site in Saskatoon at our Innovation Place facility just off the University of Saskatchewan campus. The Hardware Engineering Department leverages section heads to help lead and coordinate the technical direction of the team. You will be responsible for guiding and training employees, participating in projects and proposals, and developing and improving procedures and methodologies.

 

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

 

  • You will work directly with the leadership team in the Engineering Department to determine the Hardware Engineering strategy, execute initiatives, and improve engineering practices by regularly advocating for the needs and direction of the department
  • Your technical background in Digital Electronics, RF Systems, Embedded Software, and/or Programmable Logic Development, will enable you to provide support for Hardware Engineering challenges, either personally or by recommending internal or external resources. You strive to remove any risks or barriers to the team or projects’ success
  • You will supervise, mentor, and engage engineers and technologists by striving to increase engagement, retention, and efficiency. This includes being heavily involved in recruitment, onboarding, training, promotions, and performance management
  • You will support proposal and project development, either by direct contributions or indirectly via recommending suggested approaches, participating in reviews, or providing approvals
  • Your goal is to strengthen the Hardware Engineering Department by fostering an environment of diversity, inclusion, and psychological safety through ensuring the physical and mental well-being of all staff, and developing and executing on team-building strategies to bring the department together
  • You will strive to keep the VP of Engineering abreast with department metrics and objectives, while conducting regular meetings with your section heads and employees to ensure the team is operating effectively

 

The Skills and Experience You Have:

 

  • University degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Computer Engineering, or similar discipline
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience with technical engineering related to the telecommunications industry
  • Ideally 5 years of leadership or management experience with the ability to mentor, coach, and inspire employees at varying stages of their career
  • Ability to collaborate with a variety of leaders, managers, and stakeholders
  • Active membership with APEGS
  • You will have the ability to meet the requirements outlined in the Canadian Controlled Goods Program
  • You will be able to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Secret level
