Position Overview
A Software Technical Project Manager combines the Senior Software Team Lead and Project Manager roles to lead a team to develop and deliver software-based systems. As a Team Lead, they are the people manager of the team, communicate vision and priorities to the team and help the team work through difficult problems. As a Project Manager, they develop plans for the project, manage budget and schedule, set priorities, manage risks and communicate with stakeholders.
Technically, they can contribute to any phase of a software project and perform work with a high degree of latitude. A Software Technical Project Manager works with the Technical Lead to direct the team. In the organization chart, they report to an Engineering Manager.
This position is a progression from Software Senior Team Lead.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain project schedules, budgets, delivery plans, and risk registers
  • Manage scope, change requests, and customer expectations
  • Coordinate work across software developers, system engineers, and technical leads
  • Identify risks and blockers early and drive mitigation strategies
  • Support technical decision-making by clarifying trade-offs and constraints
  • Lead team routines and promote effective, collaborative ways of working
  • Communicate project status, risks, and delivery updates to stakeholders
  • Oversee documentation, milestone tracking, reporting, and project close-out

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Engineering Physics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 7+ years of experience in software development environments
  • 2–3+ years leading software delivery as a Project Manager, Technical Lead, or similar role
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to manage stakeholders and customer expectations
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban)

Additional Requirements

  • Understanding of high-reliability or mission-critical software systems
  • Familiarity with containerized environments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Awareness of observability and monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/Greylog)
  • Exposure to satellite communications, aerospace, telecommunications, or defence domains
  • Familiarity with automation or Infrastructure-as-Code concepts (e.g., Ansible)

Compensation

$120,000 – $170,000
